Who are La Leche League Leaders?

LLL Leaders are volunteer breastfeeding counselors who have breastfed their own babies, and are active in providing breastfeeding support in their communities.

A Leader is someone who is currently accredited as a La Leche League International Leader (LLLI), has fulfilled LLLI requirements for leadership, and subscribes to the purposes and policy of LLL. All Leaders bring their unique experience, warmth, empathy, and other skills to their LLL work, whether they have had one baby or several.

There are approximately 6000 Leaders in over 80 countries on every continent but Antarctica.

Leaders may lead a local Group and hold meetings. LLL is not affiliated with, and does not endorse or support, any business, organization, or religion whose premises we use for meetings.

Leaders may also offer support via a variety of methods, including phone, text, email, and through social media platforms.

Interested in Becoming an LLL Leader?

As an international organization, La Leche League standards for Leader accreditation are the same worldwide. All Leaders are expected to meet the prerequisites to applying for leadership and to value and role-model the organization’s philosophy in their own lives. La Leche League International is committed to serving everyone and seeks the equitable accreditation of a diverse body of Leaders.

You’ll learn the skills you need through reading, reflecting on personal experiences, discussing La Leche League philosophy, observing meetings, attending workshops, and talking with other Leaders. You’ll research common breastfeeding topics, learn effective communication skills, and practice addressing questions and handling challenging situations.

Contact a local Leader for more information. If there is no local Leader or Group where you are located, you can contact the Leader Accreditation Department (LAD) at: LAD@lllalliance.org.
