La Leche League Alliance for Breastfeeding Education

About Us

We are a USA-based educational, non–sectarian, not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization that supports Leaders, Area Administrators, and lactating families.

La Leche League Alliance for Breastfeeding Education

LLL Alliance is a division of La Leche League International in the United States. While we receive our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status as a charitable organization through our association with LLLI, we are a separately incorporated entity. We provide lactation support in several ways:

We offer ongoing educational resources, training, and support for Leaders and Area Administrators to promote evidence based helping and communication techniques.

Parents can benefit from our services by accessing information and support on breastfeeding, weaning, and chestfeeding.

We work with community organizations to provide breastfeeding education and support to individuals in need.

Concepts

01

Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.

02

Human milk is the natural food for babies, uniquely meeting their changing needs.

03

Alert, active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

04

Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying breastfeeding relationship and reliable milk supply.

05

Breastfeeding is enhanced by the loving support of the baby’s father, a co-parent, a partner, and/or close family members who value the breastfeeding relationship.

06

In the early years, the baby has an intense need to be with his mother which is as basic as his need for food.

07

For the healthy, full-term baby, human milk is the only food necessary until the baby shows signs of readiness for complementary foods, about the middle of the first year after birth..

08

Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible.

09

Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the child outgrows the need.

10

From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.
